Humans are very intelligent but the more they learn the more they will suffer. Some people are born with a fully functional body while in other cases some are always born with birth defects.
Humans are gifted with emotional feelings. Most importantly. Love. When you are gifted the ability to love it has its own pros and cons. With love people are able to sense happiness but at the same time will come across sadness.
Humans that are mentally ill, have a case of down syndrome,or is retarded are always happy throughout their life because they will always have a mind of a mere child. But being mentally ill or have down sydrome you dont have such feelings like LOVE.
Is it better to know everything and be saddened your whole life? or is it better to know nothing and be happy your whole life?
This is a topic we talked about in english class. It got me wondering for some time though...
So i just want to know what you guys think. I have if you can explain your opinion or your side of the question.

And you say children don't get sad. Also, you can know a lot and not be sad, be apathetic, or just be on happy pills.

Don't analyze what he said, take it how he gave it and answer the question. Stupid and happy? or intelligent and sad.
Personally, I'd rather live intelligent and sad. Not sure why, just thats how I live.

I can analyze what he said because the choices he gave are flawed. I choose intelligent and happy.

Well, i'm not saying that stupid people are happy. I'm just saying that in general ,if people know less then they are more happy compared to someone who knows everything in the world.
Your right if you say children do get sad. but its not that big of a deal.
For example. a kid gets sad cuz they didn't get the toy they wanted or they find out "santa" is not real ._.
while adults get depressed maybe even suicidal after finding out that their spouse cheated on them.
The matters are more severe between age groups. It's easier for a kid to get happy then an adult.
SO would you have the mind of an 8 year old and be happy the rest of your life( even when your in your 30's 60's etc. you will still have the mind of an 8 yr old)?
or be intelligent and sad like KruSuPhy stated.
people that have down syndrome or a mental disorder generally have the minds of an 8 year old.

Going by what you've said, I'd rather know everything and be saddened throughout my life.
By not knowing the truth and being happy, I'd be living oblivious to what's really going on around me. The truths are what help us advance and by not knowing them, it'd be like I'm wasting my life; never knowing what can really be done in life.

Yes its true that everyone can love and feel love. but some people feel it more then others.

I'd be...uh...oh shit I can't answer this.
I'd be intelligent and Happy. even though that was not a choice.
I cannot be intelligent and sad, since i'm slap-happy all the time
I cannot be retarded and happy, because if I were, I wouldn't be alive to this day.
EDIT: I would not be on the internet.

How the hell do you know that retarded people are happy? By observations you can assume that, but you never know what's in the mind of someone who's mentally ill.
Think about the rewards of being happy too. If you spend every day being happy from everything (like how you assumed a retard might be), then honestly, there's nothing special about being happy anymore. The reason why complex people are harder to please is because they have ambitions or goals. If they attain those goals, they become happy, but in a more rewarding sense.
Let me put it in RF context. When I started the game, I was astounded by Murekwon. It looked cool and the stance was awesome. Later on in the game as I got better, I began to look for more powerful styles. In other words, as I got better, I need to find things that might suit me better to win. The same can be said about happiness, that the more intelligent one gets, the more ambitious goals of happiness one seeks.
You ask if it is better to know everything and be saddened your whole life? or is it better to know nothing and be happy your whole life?
You might as well ask if you'd rather be intelligent or retarded.

Yoshi13 its already obvious that its harder for people to get happy cuz lik u said they will always have bigger ambitions and goals that they would strive to achieve.
Well i dont really know if retarded people are happy or not. In my opinion i wouldn't be so happy because i wouldn't be able to "fit in" with the crowd and being as normal as everyone else.
This is what i thought too when my teacher presented this topic to the class. I thought to myself how would he know that retarded people are essentially happy.
The question that was laid out was would you rather know everything and be sad for most of your life or would you rather not know everything and be happy for most of your life?
Being retarded and mentally ill just makes it harder for us to choose a side for the question.

well the answer depends on upon the person answering.
In most cases, knowing is always better. Being oblivious is just hiding in my opinion.
I'm pretty sure mandkind made advancements by taking the initiative to know everything, instead of knowing nothing just for the sake of being happy.

This question doesn't make sense at all, because things do happen spontaneously, you can't think like a time machine all the time, the main root to my explanation is that you won't know anything until it happens, even though you may not be able to stop anything from happening to you or others, simple as that.
Life is like a crystal ball, you remain clueless till the experience gets to you, whether it's a bad or a good thing.

You won't kno anything until it happens but people sometimes try to avoid it before it does. And somethings are better left unsaid in some occasions

The crystal ball, chooses you to make the move, so you automatically will, when fate chooses you to avoid danger it will, if it decides to bring you down, it will.

I don't really believe in fate. I believe that the future is yet to come and it is based on our actions and how we live life.
We are living in the present, the past can't be changed, but you can always make a change for the better.

Note they don't care and you caring doesn't make them start. The only point of trying to rid the world of birth defects is to ensure a continuity of the race. Without the race there wouldn't be science, and the possibility of finding eternal life with it. Not that anyone would care, the one race that did would be gone. Sad? Only to us.
